Dwayne Johnson revealed how he managed to pull of his "special surprise" for The Rock superfan Adele at this week's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
The Someone Like You songstress, 34, was stunned when the Hollywood actor and WWE icon, 50, greeted her at her table inside the glitzy ceremony.
Adele has often spoken of her love for The Rundown actor Dwayne, once telling YouTuber NikkieTutorials that she was "the biggest wrestling fan" when she was younger.
"Someone that I’ve never met that I think I would actually cry is The Rock," she said previously – something that became reality thanks to Grammys bosses.
It was during the show's opener that host Trevor Noah introduced The Rock to an overwhelmed Adele as the pair embraced for the first time.
It was producer Ben Winston who pitched the idea to Dwayne after he wrapped filming Netflix film Red One – giving him the chance to attend the bash alongside wife Lauren Hashian.
"We were trying to figure out something to do that was going to be fun and surprise her, and we had kicked around ideas all week," The Rock told Variety.
He said: "Myself and the Grammys went to great lengths to make sure that Adele was authentically surprised in the moment, and she was."
Speaking of the chart-topping singer, he explained: "I know that she is a very big fan of mine and has made that clear publicly many times.
"But I’ve got to tell you, I am a huge fan of hers, as well — her music, her journey, her openness and directness in how she speaks. I’ve always admired that about her."
Dwayne admitted it was a "great surprise" and revealed he was able to chat with her and boyfriend Rich Paul after the on-screen surprise.
The night's excitement didn't halt for Adele who was later presented her 16th Grammy later on in the night for Best Pop Solo Performance – by her "best friend".
"And talk about the universe meeting our friendship halfway: I get up onstage and I open that Grammy envelope and it said 'Adele'," he said.
"So that’s why I was able to say, 'Get up here best friend, Adele'," Johnson told the outlet.
He reflected on the "special night" and called Adele "such a special iconic brilliant inspiring artist" before confessing his "love" for the songstress.
