Dwayne Johnson is one of Hollywood's most notable Cinderella stories. From his college career as a football player to his breakout role as the trash-talking pro-wrestler known as The Rock, Johnson's knack for performance eventually landed him roles on the silver screen.
These days, The Rock is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood thanks to major roles in hit films by studios like Disney (DIS) -) and Warner Brothers Discover (WBD) -). Those studios' leaders are now in the hot seat as a historic strike of writers and actors is taking place. So when the Screen Actor's Guild Foundation (a non-profit that works alongside the SAG-AFTRA union) asked Hollywood's highest earners to chip in, Johnson stepped up to the plate with a record-breaking donation.

According to Variety, leaders of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation sent a letter to 2,700 of the highest-earning actors explaining the difficulties faced by other actors during the strike, which began on July 13. The foundation works to provide financial relief to striking actors through its Emergency Financial Assistance Program.

While Johnson’s exact donation amount is being kept under wraps, the foundation has confirmed that the actor gave a record-breaking seven-figure donation. Foundation Executive Director Cyd Wilson praised the move and what it says to everyone on the picket line.
He told Variety that “This is [Johnson] saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a huge message to other folks to do the same thing.”
