DVSA issues strike update for learner drivers who have tests booked

The DVSA has issued an important update to learner drivers who have practical tests booked in over the next few weeks.

People with tests booked in June had previously been warned that strike action could impact tests this month. However, the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union has suspended strike action meaning that tests can now go ahead as usual.

The strike action was due to affect test centres in the North West of England on Thursday, June 22, and Friday, June 23.

Issuing a message to learner drivers with tests booked, the DVSA said: "You should go to your driving test appointment as planned if it’s still booked for one of the dates that strike action was planned for. Check your driving test appointment if you need to check the date, time and location. If you had already moved your driving test to another date, it will still go ahead on the new date you chose."

You can check the details of your test appointment on the gov.uk website here.

Strikes were due to take place as part of a long-running civil service dispute over pay, pensions and jobs. More than 1,600 PCS union members were due to walk out across test centres in England across five days, with different regions striking on different days.

PCS members at a total of 115 government departments, including the Home Office – which covers Border Force and the Passport Office, have a mandate for strike action until November.
