Netherlands' Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia
(Picture: ANP/AFP via Getty Images)Princess Catharina-Amalia, heir to the Dutch throne, has moved out from her student home over fears she might be targeted by criminals.
Security has tightened around the 18-year-old who began studying at the University of Amsterdam last month and moved into an apartment in the city.
However, her mother Queen Maxima told Dutch reporters that Catharina-Amalia can “hardly leave the house” due to concerns she may be kidnapped or attacked.
ANP news agency quoted the Queen as saying: “The consequences are very difficult for her.
“There is no student life for her like others have.”
King Willem-Alexander has also raised concerns and the Princess of Orange has now moved back in with her parents to the Huis ten Bosch royal palace in The Hague.
Princess Amalia started her politics and economics degree last month and was sharing with other students in Amsterdam.
Mark Rutte, Dutch prime minister, did not specify the details of the threats but said it is “terrible news,” for the young princess.
He added: ”Everyone involved is doing everything possible to make sure she is safe.”
