A popular pizzeria business in South Wales is set to open up another location in Cardiff city centre. The owners of Dusty's Pizza, married couple Deb and Phill Lewis, announced on Sunday that it will start selling their signature soft and pillowy pizzas in Castle Arcade.
It's the fourth venue for the award-winning restaurant - which also boasts other branches at The Bone Yard in Canton, Goodsheds in Barry, and Founders & Co. in Swansea - though the space will be a familiar to fans of the Dusty's brand. The Castle Arcade spot used to be an off-shoot of the pizzeria called Dark, which launched in December 2019. Its menu featured "bolder choices", such as kebabs and small plates made from offal.
However, Dark struggled to stay afloat amidst the coronavirus pandemic and the owners decided to close it permanently in mid-2020. Now they are revamping the disused space into another Dusty's Pizza venue serving beers and natural wines. They added that it will be open during the day and on weekends, but are yet to confirm the opening date. You can read all our latest Cardiff stories here .

They wrote on Instagram: "Some of you will remember [Phill Lewis'] creation [Dark] in Castle Arcade. Full of offal, decked out with black walls and loud beats. It was a passion project that was driving up a strong following for Phill’s creativity based on bold flavours & whatever he could get his hands on! Sadly the tiny venue suffered due to all that COVID restriction stuff and we now don’t have the capacity to commit to the project as we once did.
"BUT we are very chuffed to finally be in a position to commence works & put plans in place to breathe some life back into this spot. COMING SOON……City Centre Dusty’s. Our signature pizza will be available alongside @freedombrewery beers & an array of natural wines. Perfect spot to pop in for a slice or a drop! It will be a tight spot that relies on speed with plenty of buzz from the team! Available throughout the day & weekend!"
The owners added that they are in the process of recruiting a "strong team to lead on this venue", and have asked potential employees to get in touch. The husband and wife team are no strangers to getting stuck into an exciting new project, having launched two other separate restaurants on top of their micro-chain of Neapolitan pizzerias: Nook, a small plates and natural wines bistro in Canton, in August 2019, and Kindle, a sustainable, wood-fired eatery in an old warden's house in Sophia Gardens, in September last year. You can read more here about how the couple first began selling pizzas in the back of a van and rapidly rose through the food industry ranks, all while raising their five children.
