Dustin the Turkey makes hilarious Eurovision 2022 dig at RTE's Liveline ahead of Irish performance

Dustin the Turkey resurfaced on social media ahead of the first round of qualifiers for the Eurovision Song Contest in Italy which kicked off on Tuesday night.

Taking to Twitter, the former contestant wished this year's Irish entrant Brooke Scullion the best of luck ahead of her performance on Thursday night, which will determine whether or not she makes it to Saturday night's final.

However, in typical cheeky Dustin fashion, he also told the singer that she can always blame him if things don't go her way.

He said: "Wishing the mega @Brooke_Scullion all the best for Thursday night!!!!!

"And remember Brooke no matter what happens if it doesn't go your way you can always just blame me like the Liveline loons do every year! #GwanYaGoodThing. #EUROVISION."

To which Brooke replied: "Love you baby".

The hilarious jibe comes after the turkey caused ructions after being chosen as Ireland's entrant in the 2008 competition.

On 23 February 2008, RTE hosted Eurosong from the University Concert Hall in Limerick. The Irish public voted for six songs and, to Dana's horror, chose Dustin the Turkey as the winner.

Singing 'Ireland Douze Pointe, ' Dustin took to the stage in Belgrade, Serbia, where Ann Harrington and Kitty B sang the backing vocals.

The song was intended as somewhat of a comedic complaint on how Eastern countries only vote for themselves leading to Ireland missing out on the top prize year after year.

However, it did not go down well, and after being booed by the onlooking crowd, Dustin the Turkey finished 15th in the first semi-final, failing to make it to the final.

The performance left a bitter taste in many disappointed Irish viewers' mouths as they felt the performance showed other countries that Ireland was no longer taking the song contest seriously.

To this day, many blame Ireland's poor streak in the competition on Dustin.

But this year, Brooke Scullion is hoping to gather the support of voters all over the continent as she takes to the stage with her song 'That's Rich'.

The 23-year-old singer will take to the stage in Turin in the second semi-final this Thursday.
