AJAX captain Dusan Tadic revealed they deliberately targeted Rangers by pressing them all over the pitch and he warned the Ibrox side they were nowhere even near their best.
Rangers slumped to a disastrous 4-0 defeat in their return to the Champions League group stages in the Netherlands and were second best all over the pitch.
And the Amsterdam club's Serbian skipper admitted they had it pre-planned about the way to target Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.
He said: "We put a lot of pressure on our opponent and we had discussed doing that before the game.
"The team spirit was good and everyone was committed to each other. We played a lot of good football.
"We made it a great evening for our fans and this was a strong message we sent out.
"In the last few games, I don't think I have played particularly well and I have been in a new position. But sometimes, you have to do what's important for the team.
"We can play better though and I think this is only the beginning for us."
And Ajax hero and Man of the Match Mohammed Kudus insisted he is only concentrating on Ajax after seeing a transfer day deadline move to Everton denied by the club.
Kudus even went on strike in a bid to push through the move, but insists he's settled his differences now.
He said: "The Man of the Match trophy is for the whole team and not just for me.
"As for what happened last week, I spoke to the manager and it was not a big thing.
"I will continue to give everything for the club.”
