Durham's Matt Baker receives MBE for charitable and voluntary services to fundraising

Matt Baker has been made an MBE for charitable and voluntary services to fundraising at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The 44-year-old from County Durham initially made his name presenting beloved kids TV show Blue Peter, before moving on to Countryfile and The One Show.

However in 2009, Baker initially teamed up with BBC's Children in Need - for the charity's Around The World in 80 Days saga, teaming up with Julia Bradbury to travel from Kazakhstan to Mongolia.

In 2011, he went on to ride a Rickshaw 484 miles from Edinburgh to London for the same Charity, raiding £2 million for youngsters for his efforts. Now, he is a Trustee of the BBC's Children in Need, legally responsible for the charity and with obligations to make decisions on grant applications, as well as taking legal authority for grant-making.

At the end of 2021, Matt was named in the New Year Honours list for his charitable and voluntary services to fundraising, finally picking up his award from King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.
