DuPage County Reports First West Nile-Related Death of 2026 as Cases Reach Six and Mosquito Positivity Hits 13%

A DuPage County resident has died from West Nile virus-related illness, the county's first such death of 2026. The DuPage County Health Department announced the death on October 6 and said six human cases have been reported in the county so far this year.

Officials have not released the person's age, sex, or hometown. The announcement comes as fall temperatures settle in, but the county's own mosquito testing shows the virus was still circulating in late September.
