Dunscore Primary pupil spread Fairtrade message with Wee Brew

Children have been spreading the Fairtrade message in a Dumfriesshire village.

To coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight, Dunscore Primary School and pre-school held their Wee Brew on Thursday which followed on from the village’s Big Brew on Saturday.

The children did plenty of baking using Fairtrade ingredients and served them with Fairtrade tea and coffee to parents and other villagers.

The school hall was so busy with guests that the children had to bring out extra tables and £139.25 was raised from generous donations which will now be used to buy Fairtrade Easter eggs for the children and Fairtrade ingredients for baking at future events.

Principal teacher, Samantha Wallace, said: “As a Fairtrade school, all the children are aware how buying Fairtrade products helps people in developing countries.

“Our Fairtrade group meets every month and they help to make our Fairtrade events such a success.”

Dunscore became the first Fairtrade village in the region in 2019.
