Dungeons & Dragons is taking a break from traditional dungeon crawling with a new game focused on what happens after the adventure.
Publisher Dotemu and developer Homo Ludens have announced Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern, a single-player management simulation set in the Forgotten Realms. Instead of controlling a warrior, wizard or rogue, players will run a tavern where adventurers eat, rest and prepare for their next quest.
The game is scheduled to launch on PC through Steam in 2027. An exact release date has not been announced, and no console version has been confirmed.
Build a Tavern in Faerûn
"Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern" Turns the Classic Fantasy Tavern Into a Management Sim
Players will begin with a modest roadside establishment in the Dalelands, a region of Faerûn. The goal is to transform it into a busy and profitable destination for heroes passing through the area.
Running the tavern involves preparing food, brewing drinks, experimenting with recipes and keeping supplies available. Players can also upgrade, decorate and optimize the building as the business grows.
The tavern will serve visitors from different species and character classes. According to Dotemu, players will develop a varied menu and create dishes and drinks designed to satisfy adventurers returning from dangerous missions.
The common room can become especially busy when several guests arrive at once. Players will need to manage staff, serve customers and keep the operation under control while working to improve the tavern's reputation.
Adventurers Can Be Sent on Quests
The tavern is more than a place for customers to recover. It also serves as a hub where adventurers receive their next assignments.
Rather than personally fighting monsters, players can assign challenges to visiting heroes. The party's composition can influence which quests they undertake, while dice rolls, luck and skill help determine what happens during their journeys.
Adventurers may return with rare ingredients, magical curiosities and other treasures. Those resources can be used to support the tavern, expand its facilities and create new menu options.
The player's decisions can also affect how individual quests end. This gives the game a management-focused approach to the Dungeons & Dragons universe while retaining familiar elements such as adventuring parties, monsters, treasure and dice-based outcomes.
Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern Release Date
Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern will launch in 2027 on PC via Steam. The game is listed as a single-player title and is currently available to wishlist on the platform.
Dotemu has not announced a console release or confirmed a specific launch date.
The game may appeal to Dungeons & Dragons fans who enjoy cooking games, life simulations and management titles. Instead of leading a party through a dungeon, players will prepare meals, manage employees, send heroes into danger and build a tavern worth returning to.
