Mid Ulster District Council’s environment committee is to be provided with an update on Dungannon’s public realm scheme at its meeting next Tuesday (October 11) following claims local traders are “bemused” at the project’s progress.
The report will provide local representatives with an update on the work’s snag list. Also up for discussion will be a time line for the adoption of the £2.3 million project by Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads.
Speaking at a meeting of the council’s policy and resources committee on Thursday, October 6, Councillor Dominic Molloy revealed he was approached by business owners in the town about the issues they are facing with defects in the work.

“I was approached earlier today by business owners in Dungannon town centre. They are bemused as to what is going on in regards to where we are at with the public realm works,” said Cllr Molloy.
“These works finished possibly three years ago now and DfI still haven’t taken over some of the works. There a number of snags that have come up around kerbs and pavements.
“There was a lady that fell last weekend and sustained injury so I just want to see where we are in terms of finishing off the public realm and its adoption by the Department of Infrastructure.”
Council’s chief executive, Adrian McCreesh told the chamber a report covering these issues would be discussed at the environment committee next week.
“As I understand it, there is a report going to the environment committee next week which will provide an update on the snag list and hopefully the completion of the same,” he said.
“It will be at the environment committee and it will be discussed, hopefully, next Tuesday night (Tuesday, October 11).”
