Dundee United shut Craig Levein 'suspicion' down as club deny ANY Tony Asghar involvement

Dundee United officials have dismissed suggestions from Craig Levein that Tony Asghar is still involved at the club.

Former United sporting director Asghar stepped down at the end of February after a backlash from the Tannadice faithful. Ex-United boss Levein claimed in a recent BBC interview that “I have my suspicions” when asked if Asghar still had a presence at the club. Levein was then in the same interview, asked if the set-up at United has changed now, Levein replied: “Has it? “Has it changed?”

Dundee United boss Goodwin has claimed his hierarchy at the club are chief executive Luigi Capuano and owner Mark Ogren. Goodwin said: “My point of contact at the club is the chief executive, Luigi Capuano, and the owner, Mark Ogren. They are the two guys I have regular dialogue with. You can’t stop speculation and rumours from flying about in football. But I can say honestly that my day-to-day work is with the chief exec and owner.

“I’ve had great support from them, along with the rest of the staff at the club, as we try to get Dundee United going in the right direction.”

Levein was interviewed for a return to United before the Tannadice board decided to appoint Goodwin until the end of the season. Asghar brought Mark Ogren to the table to buy United. He led them out of the Championship and back into Europe this season.

However, a poor domestic season which has seen them sack Jack Ross and Liam Fox saw the United faithful call for Asghar to step down over poor recruitment and the team sitting bottom of the table. Asghar resigned just days after Fox was sacked after the defeat to Ross County in February.
