Dumper truck mows down Jaipur cop, buries him under stone dust

JAIPUR: A speeding truck mowed down a 50-year-old police constable and then dumped stone dust on him in Shastri Nagar on Monday night.

An FIR was registered on Tuesday when locals discovered the body of Rameshwar Prasad Meena buried in stone dust.

As per the FIR, the incident took place after Meena left his quarters near the Rajasthan Police Academy (RPA) in Shastri Nagar after 10.30pm after finishing dinner. Shortly before midnight on Monday, a truck driver while taking a reverse mowed down Meena. The driver did not notice that Meena was lying at the back of the truck and dumped dust on him.

Locals found Meena's body buried under the dust and informed police. Police said the truck had come to deliver stone dust to a building materials shop when the accident took place.

The Jaipur-North accident police station said that the accused driver has been identified as one Roshan Lal Yogi. His body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem on Tuesday.

Police said Meena was a resident of Kotputli near Jaipur and was posted at Jaipur police lines. A case was registered under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.

"The FIR was filed by the victim's son. The investigation into the case is underway," an official said.

"Prima facie, evidence indicates the driver was reversing the truck and did not notice that Meena was standing right behind," the official said, adding that the driver ran over the constable and then unloaded the stone dust on him.

Police said that they were retrieving CCTV footage from nearby areas around the RPA Road. "On Tuesday morning, some people noticed that a man was buried in the stone dust and informed the police about the incident. The Shastri Nagar police then informed the family members. The body was moved to Kanwatiya Hospital," the official said.
