Dumfriesshire Foodbank holding collections at Cuckoo Bridge Tesco Extra

The Dumfriesshire Foodbank will be collecting donated items in the Tesco Extra store at Cuckoo Bridge in Dumfries on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.

They are hoping the public will support the three-day collection by giving non-perishable tinned and packet foodstuffs or make a cash donation which can buy edibles.

Everything donated will go directly to Dumfriesshire Foodbank in Friars Vennel, which is part of the Trussell Trust network, and given to local people in need.

Volunteers from Dumfries High School will be present on two of the days to take donations.

Crystal Stevenson, Dumfriesshire Foodbank co-ordinator, said: “Dumfries High School go above and beyond for our foodbank with outstanding past collections. Some of these young people are also completing their volunteering hours
for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are so grateful for their support.

“Please come along and help Dumfriesshire Foodbank support those in need and with our fantastic partner Tesco, you will help give Dumfriesshire foodbank a well needed boost in food, funding and awareness to help us carry out our mission for a hunger free future.”

The Trussel Trust supports a network of more than 420 foodbanks which provide a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis.

In 2020 it supplied 2.5 million three-day emergency food parcels to people in crisis.
