Matt Currie laid down a marker for the future in the Chilean capital of Santiago on Saturday.
The former Dumfries Midi showed up well in the Scottish A side that cruised to a 45-5 victory over the home side, one of the emerging Tier Two nations.
In what was his senior international debut, Currie had 70 minutes and put in a power of work.
The 21-year-old outside centre from Auldgirth came close to grabbing a debut try in the second half when he charged through a gap at a ruck but was hauled down by three defenders a couple of metres short.
Earlier in the opening period he had a decent run down the right wing.
Overall it was a busy performance and his contribution to the defence was immense.
Scotland move on to Argentina for the first of three test matches this weekend and it may be Currie did enough to be named in the squad.
