A Dumfries cricketer has been named in the men’s Scotland squad to compete in this weekend’s ICC Cricket World Cup League matches in the United Arab Emirates
Chris McBride made an appearance with Scotland ‘A’ last season and as a part of the Scotland training group during the winter.
His Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer said: “For the trip we have guys like batter Chris McBride coming into the mix and he could earn his first full cap.
“He deserves this chance and it is great to see guys from the wider squad pushing more experienced players.”
The top order batter will supplement that team role as a seam bowling option as evidenced by him being a pick of the bowlers in the side’s initial warm-up game with UAE.
Scotland will play their first match against PNG at noon on Saturday, then Oman on Sunday, PNG on April 13 and Oman on April 15.
The 22-year-old learned his cricket from a very young age at Dumfries Cricket Club and would be the first men’s player from the club to be capped for Scotland at senior level if given the opportunity.
The Scotland games will be live streamed online on the ICC online channel, icc.tv.
