Increasing numbers of flu cases are putting the region’s health and social care system under more pressure than it faced during the peak of coronavirus pandemic.
Officials have described the situation as a “very challenging time” and they are “unlikely to see significant improvement for some weeks”.
The crisis is causing operations to be cancelled at short notice while more than 100 people are stuck in hospital despite being medically fit enough to leave.
