Remembrance services took place across Dumfries and Galloway on Sunday.
The region fell silent to honour those who lost their lives in two world wars and the many conflicts since and was all the more poignant this year as war rages in Europe.
Members of Dumfries and Galloway’s Ukrainian community from Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Stranraer laid wreaths for their armed forces.
There was also a wreath laid in Annan for Ukrainian people, as there has been for a number of years now.
Councillor Archie Dryburgh MBE, the region’s Armed Forces Champion, laid a wreath at the Annan memorial during the town’s parade and service.
He said: “Remembrance Sunday is our opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. We remembered our Armed Forces, and their families, as well as the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict and terrorism.”
Provost Tracey Little laid a wreath on behalf of the people of the town at Dumfries War Memorial. Wreaths were also laid at memorials in the Nithsdale area by Lord Lieutenants and deputies, members of the Nithsdale area committee, community councillors and other organisations.
Many of the services were organised by local branches of the Royal British Legion Scotland and included veterans and serving personnel, members of uniformed organisations and the public.
Dumfries and Maxwelltown RBL branch organised the commemorations at the memorials outside St John’s Church and Maxwelltown.
A church service was held in St John’s Church ahead of the parade from Loreburn Hall which was led by Dumfries Pipe Band and included members of the 6th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, Dumfries and Maxwelltown RBL branch members, Dumfries Sea Cadets, West Lowland Battalion Army Cadet Force Dumfries Detachment, 1153 Squadron Air Training Corps, Royal Air Force Association and the Merchant Navy Association.
At the Maxwelltown War Memorial, Mr Richard Starkey conducted the service and the wreath laying was organised by Mr Ronnie Rae.
