Dumbarton star Aron Lynas says the Sons have a point to prove against Stirling Albion.
The Sons welcome the Binos to The Rock tonight with just two points separating the clubs at the top of the League Two table, albeit with the visitors having a game in hand – and having won 6-0 the last time the teams met in October.
However, Lynas says the squad are determined to avenge the loss, and take a big step towards the title.
The defender, named Dumbarton’s player of the month for February, told the Lennox: “We’ve definitely got a point to prove.
“The last time we played them we put in a really poor performance. We let ourselves down and everyone connected with the club. There was a real sense of urgency to get this game going and put things right.
“All day you’re thinking about the game and so desperate to put things right.
“It’s a big, big game where we’re expecting a big crowd and a lively atmosphere.
“This year is so important for the club with it being the 150th anniversary.
“It’s crucial that we win the league for the club and for the fans to celebrate that.
“Our support travel everywhere – Elgin, Annan and Stranraer and show that loyal support.
“We want to give them something back this year, and being a part of that in the 150th year would be really special.”
The teams were due to meet again in early January, but heavy rainfall saw the clash postponed two hours before kick-off.
The rescheduled match last week also fell victim to bad weather, with Sons hoping to make it third time lucky
tonight.
Lynas continued: “Nobody wanted the game called off. I was so focused and so psyched up for that game.
“I had been preparing all day in my head.
“We were so eager to get going, so to arrive at the stadium and hear the news was gutting.
“But that’s football, sometimes these things happen.
“We were coming away from a good victory against Stranraer. The boys were buzzing and fully focused on picking up what would’ve been a massive three points.”
Regardless of what division the Sons are in however, Lynas hopes to extend his stay at the club into a second season – after becoming a firm favourite with the club’s supporters.
He added: “I’ve loved my time here. It was a hard decision to leave Albion Rovers where I was the captain, but the gaffer showed a bit of interest and it was something that caught my eye.
“I felt like it was the right fit and I’ve loved it so far.
“We’re fully focused on each week and game at the moment because of how critical they are.
“But I would love to stay at Dumbarton. I’ve really enjoyed it, I’ve settled in well and the fans have been great with
me.
“I’m loving my football at the moment.”
Kick off at The Rock is 7.45pm, with entry discounted to £10 for adults and £5 for U16s.
