Dueling expert picks for Cardinals-Chiefs in Week 1

The Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs will play Sunday afternoon at State Farm Stadium. Neither team has lost a season opener with their current starting quarterback. Patrick Mahomes is 4-0 in Week 1 games, while Kyler Murray is 2-0-1.

The Chiefs are favored in this game and the Cardinals have many players banged up.

What are some predictions for the game?

Chiefs Wire managing editor Charles Goldman and I each made predictions for the game that were published in our respective “Behind Enemy Lines” articles this week.

But if you missed those, here are our dueling expert picks.

Chiefs 35, Cardinals 13

I was pretty confident in the Chiefs when we spoke on your podcast earlier this offseason and my confidence has only grown since. I expect K.C. to come out of the gate hot on both sides of the ball after a really nice preseason showing. Between the uncertainty in the Arizona secondary and the injuries to offensive skill players, I think this game is going to be more of a struggle for the Cardinals than it will be for Kansas City.

Chiefs 28, Cardinals 24

In my Sports Weekly preview, I predicted a last-second field goal for a 37-35 Arizona win. With uncertainty of the status of Zach Ertz and Markus Golden, I tempered that to a Cardinals‘ cover instead of win. If Moore also is out, I don’t know what to think. Ultimately, I think it will be a lot of points.
