Ducks veteran goaltender John Gibson has reportedly demanded a trade from the organization, and he didn’t mince words when doing so, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli.
During an appearance on the Nasty Knuckles podcast, Seravalli claimed that Gibson told the organization he’s not going to play another game in Anaheim.
“John Gibson’s asked for a trade. And I’ve reported that, and he’s said, ‘I am not playing another game for the Anaheim Ducks,’” Seravalli said.
The Ducks finished with a league-worst 58 points in 2022–23. Gibson started 52 games last year, surrendering the most goals in the NHL at 200. His .899 save percentage and 3.99 goals allowed average were both the worst marks of his career.

Considering Anaheim’s defensive woes, it’s hard to blame him. The Ducks surrendered the most shots on goal in the league last year, as Gibson was faced with a barrage of pucks virtually every night he stepped onto the ice.
Gibson, who will be 30 next season, seems to have had it with the rebuild in Anaheim, and will reportedly look to force a move away from the organization ahead of the 2023–24 season.
Gibson was drafted by the Ducks in 2011 and debuted during the ’13–14 season. He’s spent his entire career with the franchise, though he appears ready to find a new NHL home if he’s granted his trade request.
