Dubliners lost the most time in traffic in the city centre out of a list of 389 cities last year, new research has shown.
Geolocation technology specialist TomTom has revealed that the average Dublin city centre drivers lost 145 hours for a 10km trip driven daily at peak hours in 2022, up from an average of 116 hours in 2021. Bucharest and London were right behind Dublin on the list, with drivers losing an average of 143 and 139 hours respectively.
London ranked the slowest overall travel time for a 10km trip in 2022, taking an average of 36 minutes and 20 seconds. Dublin ranked third slowest on this list, with a 10km trip taking an average of 28 minutes and 30 seconds.

In comparison, Cork's average travel time per 10km was 16 minutes while Limerick's was 13 minutes. The research also found that November 9 was the worst day to travel in Dublin last year, taking an average of 35 minutes to travel just 10km.
TomTom's survey revealed that drivers around the world spent an average of 27% more to fill up their petrol tanks last year than in 2021, while those driving diesel cars shelled out 48% more in 2022 than the year before.
