Dubliners have their say - and are calling for the return of the Fat Frog

Dubliners have spoken - and they want to see the return of the king of ice pop, the Fat Frog.

A quintessential ice pop of Dublin childhoods back in the 90s and early oughties, the Fat Frog has been gone for years. Heartbroken fans of the limey-appley ice pop goodness have not forgotten it however, and there have been many calls to bring it back over the years.

Dublin Live made a recent throwback post on our Facebook page and there was a surprising number of people that are still calling for their return. "They were epic," one commentor said, while another added: "Best hangover cure, Fat Frog or Tangle Twister."

The photo of the old ice lolly wrap sparked an entire thread of dozens upon dozens of comments with people unlocking childhood memories. "This was our feast ice cream," another person said.

Others remembered various other discontinued childhood treats such as King Crun-chos, ‘American style’ hot dog-flavoured crisps shaped like knobbly little sticks; Mars Delight, the crispy, chocolatey and light version of Mars bars; the Wibbly Wobbly Wonder ice cream; and the just recently discontinued Lilt with its 80s 'totally tropical taste' advert.

Two Facebook pages, 'Fat Frog Ice Pops' and 'Help Bring HB Fat Frogs back', have gathered nearly 200,000 people.

The pages act as both emotional support for those craving the ice pop in vain and as random hot spots for petitioning the return of the HB favourite. People also regularly vent about their Fat Frog heartbreak on Twitter, the latest one being just a few days old.

Do you want to see the Fat Frog return? Which other childhood snack are you missing the most? Let us know in the comments below.
