Dublin woke up to sheets of ice on roads and footpaths this morning as the weather dipped well below freezing last night. And many parents are concerned whether or not schools will be closing this week.
Minister Darragh O'Brien has confirmed that the plan is to keep schools open during the current cold snap. Speaking to Morning Ireland this morning he said: "There will be discretion at a local level where there might be a local event where the board of management may decide that the school should be closed."
"But in the main yes, schools should remain open."
