Dublin's first bike ride disco is coming to the Phoenix Park

The city’s first Bike Disco at the Phoenix Park will take place at 8pm on Friday, September 23 and will bring together crowds for a family friendly 5km cycle.

The event is being put together by Dublin City Council, in collaboration with Fingal County Council, the Office of Public Works, and Dublin Cycling Campaign.

The route will start at Phoenix Roundabout at Chesterfield Avenue and participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes and make them as colourful as possible.

There will be bike decoration packs with festival flags and string lights for the first 100 participants who show up on the night.

Both experienced and budding cyclists are welcome to take part and the route will be car free on the night, so those who are new to cycling will have plenty of space.

There is no pre-registration needed. Simply show up on the date.

The cycle is part of the Dublin City Council’s participation in European Mobility Week, the European Commission’s initiative to raise awareness on sustainable urban mobility.

Deirdre Kelly, Dublin City Council Walking and Cycling Officer, said" “We’re delighted to be involved in this bike disco event.

"It’s a great opportunity for cyclists of all ages and abilities to take part in what should be a really fun, colourful event.”

Meanwhile Stephen McGinn, Walking and Cycling Officer at Fingal County Council, commented: "Getting on your bike, whether it’s to travel to work or school every day or just to have fun with the family, is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to a great party atmosphere on Friday evening."

Those wishing to participate are warned that some entrances to the Phoenix Park will be closed to accommodate for the event.

Both Castleknock and Knockmaroon Gates and a section of Chesterfield Avenue, between Phoenix Roundabout and Castleknock Gate, will be closed from 7pm to 10pm.
