A Dublin pub was left feeling like a chain store, practically floored after finding a precious souvenir had been taken from the bar over the weekend.
The Big Romance didn't believe it really, really, really could happen so were shocked to find a replica milk carton from Blur's hit Coffee & TV had been taken from the pub on Friday night. The song, which was released at the end of a century in 1999, was a huge hit, in part thanks to the iconic video which featured the milk carton getting lost.
The Parnell Street venue had the carton on display but found their bank holiday ruined when they discovered it was missing yesterday. The pub has a tender reason for wishing the carton's safe return as it was gifted to them by a friend and they launched a public appeal to recover it from whatever city dweller may have taken it.
Taking to Twitter, the bar wrote: "*PLEASE HELP* Someone has run off with our original Blur milk carton which has a lot of sentimental value. It was actually bought at a Blur show years ago and was loaned to us by a mate."
Pub bosses later added they would be left happy and feeling glad by the carton's safe return and would bear no ill feelings to whoever engineered its great escape. They added: "We genuinely have no hard feelings, people do silly things with a few drinks on them, and would really appreciate if the individual could drop it back to us."
And, hoping Milky hadn't been whisked away to a country house by a charmless man, the northside venue made a further appeal to the girls and boys who may feel there's no other way but to never return to the pub again after taking the prized ornament. They said: "It’s never too past it’s sell by date to bring our boy back. We won’t be sour about it. Please share in the hope that the person sees this and is sound about returning it to it’s home."
Let's hope the milk carton liberators realise there's no distance left to run and decide there's no other way but to return Milky to his rightful owner.
