Dublin pub of the week: The Bald Eagle is a great reason to visit Phibsborough

For this week's Dublin pub of the week, we decided to travel outside the city centre to a bustling Dublin 7 to visit one of the spots that just screams Phibsborough.

The Bald Eagle is located on Phibsborough Road at the Cross Guns Bridge across from The Bernard Shaw.

The pub first opened its doors in November 2017. While it looks like a typical local pub from the outside, it certainly has a unique offering inside with its delicious food, crafty cocktails, local beers and an aesthetic that can only be described as "Phibsborough".

If it was located anywhere else, it mightn't pack such a punch. But it fulfils our rather high expectations when we visit what has been labelled one of Europe's coolest neighbourhoods.

Upon entering you will spot old comic book covers plastered on the walls before being greeted by a friendly staff member.

Taking pride in its locality, The Bald Eagle houses an array of local trinkets which are dotted along the walls and on the shelves around the venue. This vintage look is complete with ornate ceilings, a retro arcade machine and a carefully curated collection of "nerd-culture artefacts".

All of this married with the more modern cocktail list, food menu and craft beers makes The Bald Eagle a true representation what its neighbourhood has become in the last few years.

In terms of food, the menu is certainly appetising, offering the kind of comfort food we look for in a trendy gastropub. The bar bites on offer include crab claws and prawns, nachos, garlic bread and classic chicken wings.

Meanwhile the mains include Chicken Supreme, Hake, Fajitas, Baby Back Ribs and IPA Fish and Chips.

In addition, there is also a range of super tasty pizzas on offer as well as scrumptious sides such as loaded fries and potato skins.

While the food menu and list of IPAs are ever-appetising, what draws us here most is the opportunity to try inviting concoctions from the hand crafted cocktails list.

And for the whiskey lovers, there are over 50 different kinds of the good stuff on offer. While this can make it difficult to make any kind of decision, the whiskey boards on offer certainly help. Priced between €17.50 and €35, each board comes with three whiskeys and offer a great excuse to try something new.
