Dublin parking: Clamp removal charge to increase to €125 for motorists caught parking illegally around the city centre

Dubliners who park illegally around the city centre and get clamped are set to face an increased fee of €125 from next month.

It comes after Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan recently approved an increase in the release fees for clamped vehicles in Dublin city, reports the Irish Times.

It is hoped that the new change will help to tackle illegal parking around the city centre.

At present, motorists who are clamped on public roads and streets in Dublin city face a fee of €80.

The new increased fee will come into effect on March 1.

It comes after fines have doubled for drivers caught parking on footpaths, cycle tracks and bus lanes have doubled in Dublin city and around the county from €40 to €80.

From January to October 2021, there were 33,389 drivers clamped in Dublin city.

2,369 of these were appealed but only 387 appeals were withheld.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alison Gilliland said footpaths need to be kept clear, especially for people with mobility issues.

She said: "Parking on the footpath disproportionately affects people with mobility issues, such as wheelchair users or those who are visually challenged as well as people with buggies.

"For them it is not easy to step on to the road to get past a car blocking their way. It’s hugely important for us to keep our footpaths clear so that everyone can access the city freely."

Dublin City Council said they welcomed new Government regulations that doubled the fixed charge penalty and said the increase aims to "encourage more considerate behaviour by motorists".
