Dublin named most expensive European city break in new study

Dublin has been named the most expensive European city break in a new study.

Dublin topped the Money.co.uk list above other popular European city destinations Prague, Edinburgh, Manchester, Zurich, London and Amsterdam.

The rest of the list is made up of Copenhagen, Oslo, Geneva, Seville and Bristol.

Revealing Dublin to be the one to take the top spot, author James Andrews described the capital as the most expensive city for a number of things including a glass of wine, Airbnbs and top rated attractions.

"It has the highest average cost for an Airbnb, coming in at nearly £252.88 a night," he revealed.

"The Irish city also claims the crown as the most expensive European city for a glass of white wine and one of the most expensive top-rated attractions, bringing its total cost to nearly £300."

The research found the average cost of a top rated attraction in Dublin to be £20.33, which converts to around €24.56.

Meanwhile, it estimated the cheapest meal in the city to be £11.65, around €14.07.

Second on the list is Prague, with a one-night stay costing £210 (€253.66) on average, bringing the total spend to £232.98 (€281.42).

The research also revealed the cheapest European city breaks for holiday makers, with Istanbul in Turkey coming in at number 1.

According to the study, the average cost of an Airbnb in the city is £51.38 (€62.06) and the average cost of a top rated attraction comes in at £6.46 (€7.80). Meanwhile, a glass of white wine will cost around £4.81 (€5.81) and the cheapest meal will be around £4.92 (€5.94).

Following Istanbul on this list is Thessaloniki in Greece, Berlin, Porto, Naples, Athens, Valencia, Bologna Lisbon and Antwerp.

The rest of the top 20 cheapest European city breaks is made up by Vienna, Brussels, Florence, Milan, Munich, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris and Madrid.
