Dublin Marathon 2022: Everything you need to know from start time to road closures

The annual Dublin City Marathon will return to our streets after a three year hiatus this bank holiday weekend.

The marathon will take place on October 30 with a record number of 25,000 entrants. The race typically draws crowds from across the city as competitors vie for the coveted Noel Carroll Memorial Trophy 2022.

Several city centre routes will be closed on Saturday 29 October in order to prepare for the event, while the remainder will be closed solely on the day of the marathon. Whether you're taking part or want to spectate, here's everything you need to know ahead of the marathon:

What time does the Dublin Marathon start?

The marathon will kick off at 8:40 AM on Fitzwilliam Street Upper. However, there will be scheduled waves for different runners. Wheelchair users will start the marathon at 8:40, while the final wave of runners will commence the race at 9:45. This is to avoid congestion in the early stages of the race and ensure the marathon proceeds smoothly. Runners are allocated to a specific wave when registering for the marathon.

Route

The marathon route is approximately 42.2 kilometres long and spans a variety of residential areas in Dublin. The marathon passes through areas such as Stoneybatter, the North Circular Road, Walkinstown and Terenure.
