Dublin Bowie Festival to celebrate 50 years of Ziggy Stardust

The Dublin Bowie Festival has announced its return for 2022 with this year's edition featuring a packed line-up of events that will celebrate 50 years of Ziggy Stardust.

Taking place from April 13 until April 24, the festival promises Bowie fans a series of events that truly capture the magic of this iconic musician including live performances, film, art, dance and plenty of other fun.

With the Dublin festival being the largest event dedicated to Bowie in the world, the line-up features some wonderful guests who were involved with Bowie over the years.

Dana Gillespie, a renowned Blues singer who has released 75 albums and still tours worldwide, comes to Dublin from London for the festival while Ava Cherry, who sang with Bowie from 73-75, travels from Chicago.

Dana has worked with Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Page amongst others. Meanwhile Ava has worked with Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross and Curtis Mayfield.

The Salty Dog No Stars will take part in the festival as they perform two classic albums that celebrate their 50th birthdays - The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders from Mars and Lou Reed's Transformer, which Bowie co-produced with his guitarist Mick Ronson.

The programme also sees the festival return to The Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield. Screenings here will include The Man Who Sewed The World, Lee Scrivens brilliant documentary on the life and times of Freddie Burretti, the fashion designer of Bowie’s outrageous Ziggy Stardust costumes.

There will also be Turn And Face The Strange, a filmed revisit to Bowie's classic Hunky Dory album starring young Irish singer Shobsy.

On April 13, an art exhibition called Cartoon Bowie will be open to view at Rathfarnham Castle.

Fans of Bowie are in for a treat at The George on Wednesday, April 20 as top Dublin drag queen Veda Lady returns with a Ziggy inspired show, Lady Stardust.
