Dublin bakery announces sad closure due to high bills and energy costs

A walk-in vegan bakery in Dublin has announced that it will close its doors in April.

Bear Lemon bakery is located in Drumcondra, and it produces delicious breads and pasteries that are beloved by vegans from all around the city. But after two-and-a-half years in business, the owner of Bear Lemon has confirmed the sad news that they will close their doors on April 2.

Taking to Instagram, owner Ciara Lennon took to socials to share the sad news with her customers. She explained how things are tough for small business at the moment, listing "bills and energy" as a few of the reasons why they are closing.

In a post on Instagram, she wrote: "Lads where do I start, we are closing on Saturday 2nd of April ! All great things must come to an end for new exciting doors to open. It has been a crazy journey, to the start let's go back to 2017 when I had nothing but a dream to start my own business and be my own boss, I was just 27 at the time and didn't know what challenges lay ahead of me.

"Took out my notebook and it all started with a dot on a piece of paper and the passion to bake and create the most beautiful vegan cakes and pastries and I did that, from stocking Dublin city cafes to my own bakery it's been crazy journey, all started in my family home, the ups and downs of business life as you know at the moment things are just crazy with overheads, bills and energy just to name a few, and it has forced so many places to close."

Ciara added: "Trust me when I say this, Bear Lemon has not failed but the system has failed me. It's just next to impossible to keep up with bills and keep a physical business open. So I have made the decision to close my doors. It's been one of the most tough decisions of my life as I have put so much love and passion into my creation qnd my incredible team behind me but I am tired of fighting with a system that is so much bigger than me that does not support me nor anything in my business, I am gracefully bowing out."

Ciara thanked all of her staff and faithful patrons who have visited Bear Lemon in Drumcondra over the last two and a half years. She said: "To everyone who has walked through them doors and even before that have supported me I can't thank you enough for supporting me in my dreams, to my team that has been there around the clock making the best vegan cakes this city has ever seen, to past and present staff, thank you."

Social media users were saddened to hear of the popular bakery's closure, lamenting the loss of another vegan friendly business in the city. One person commented: "The very best of luck to you, you have always had an incredible product, right from the beginning."

A second added: "This is really sad news, such a fab delish brand, will be missed." A third person said: "Ah Ciara this is awful news. You will be badly missed."
