Dublin Airport: Underrated sunny destinations to fly to from Dublin

Dublin Airport is set to get busy over the coming weeks as summer sets in and Dubs make good use of the summer holidays to chase some sunshine abroad.

While popular resorts and destinations such as Malaga, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Porto and Torremolinos will be visited, others might be looking for alternative options this summer.

Both Ryanair and Aer Lingus fly to a number of wonderful destinations from Dublin Airport, many of which you may never have considered going to. We thought we would find six of those and explain why they might just make for a stunning holiday for you and your friends, your partner or your family this summer.

Split, Croatia

Split is a stunningly beautiful part of the world and acts as a great base for explorations to close by Croatian island such as Hvar, which might be the most stunning island you can visit in Europe.

There are 11 flights per week from Dublin Airport to Split, which cost anywhere between €80 and €200 this summer, depending on when you fly.

Alghero, Italy

Dramatic coastal scenes, charming old-timey walks and lovely beach days is what to expect when vacationing in Alghero in Sardinia, Italy.

Flights go here from Dublin Airport four times a week. Flights during the summer start from around €55.

Things to do in Alghero include a myriad of beaches to visit, exploring the historical town centre, the Coral Museum, trying the delicious local food and the Grotta di Nettuno caves.

Bratislava, Slovakia

There are flights to Bratislava in Slovakia from Dublin Airport four times a week, starting at around €30 during the summer months.

The Slovakian capital is home to a wonderful array of things to do including the Slavín War Memorial, Bratislava Castle, the city's historic centre, Devin Castle and private speed boat tours.

Izmir, Turkey

The cheapest flights from Dublin Airport to Izmir are on the pricier side, starting at around €130 during summer. Flights go here from Dublin Airport five times a week.

In terms of things to do in this coastal city, stroll through the Bazaar district of the city and pick up some souvenirs to take home, walk along the picturesque docks, eat delicious local cuisine and enjoy rooftop drinks during sunset.

You can also visit ancient monuments, bathe in hot mineral pools, lounge on the beach or go surfing.

There is also Cesme just west of Izmir which makes for a stunning resort getaway.

Toulouse, France

If Toulouse is anything, it's charming and delicious. You can fly to Toulouse from Dublin Airport 12 times a week, and flights start from around €52.

In terms of things to do, you're well set in Toulouse. Visit Carcassonne Castle, cruise down the Canal du Midi or relax in the beautiful Japanese gardens.

Foodies will adore Toulouse with a slew of bars and restaurants offering up delicious local cuisine including Cassoulet, Saucisse de Toulouse and Foie gras d’oie.

Burgas, Bulgaria

With six flights from Dublin Airport to Burgas, Bulgaria per week starting at around €117 during the summer months, it might be time to visit a country you never considered going to before.

Burgas is located on Bulgaria's black Sea coast. Things to do here include a visit to the beautiful sea garden, a trip to St Anastasia Island, a stay at the Sozopol resort and a chilled day at North Beach.
