Dublin Airport flights temporarily suspended after drone spotted on airfield

A number of flights were suspended after a drone was spotted at Dublin Airport this evening.

Planes flying into Dublin Airport were diverted to Shannon and Belfast Airports following the sighting. Flights that were due to take off from Dublin Airport were suspended for a short period of time.

A Dublin Airport spokesperson said: "Flight operations at Dublin Airport were suspended for safety reasons for a very short period (less than 10 minutes) this evening (Friday) following a confirmed drone sighting on the airfield. It is illegal to fly drones within five kilometres of an airport in the State.

"The safety and security of airport users is daa’s key priority at all times and staff at Dublin Airport and An Garda Síochana remain vigilant in relation to drone activity in the vicinity of the airport."

This is the second time in just over a week that a drone sighting has halted flight operations at the airport. Flights were suspended for around 20 minutes after a drone was spotted at Dublin Airport on January 25, 2023.

Under the current Irish law, it is illegal to operate a drone within five kilometres of an airport.
