Dublin Airport 'calm' as no problems expected heading into busy evening peak period

The Dublin Airport Authority (daa) has said that the airport is "calm" and that the new system in place is working efficiently to cut down security queues waiting times, RTE news is reporting.

Last weekend thousands of passengers missed their flights and the daa has made changes to prevent a repeat of the chaotic scenes.

Meanwhile, the daa has said that it does not anticipating having to 'triage' passengers over the bank holiday weekend.

Kevin Cullinane, head of communications at daa, said there was a "very busy" first wave of departures this morning.

He said that things calmed down considerably after the morning rush and that the daa is "not anticipating any problems."

The airport is now preparing for another busy period from 3pm until 7pm. Meanwhile, earlier this morning 11 security lines opened in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to deal with demand.

The largest waiting time so far today has been 59 minutes in Terminal 1 and 40 minutes in Terminal 2, and it is now 15 minutes in both terminals.

Between the 6am and 7am peak, 36 flights departed Dublin - 19 from Terminal 1 and 17 from Terminal 2, which matched Friday's peak of flight departure operations.

More than 100,500 passengers are expected to pass through Dublin Airport this weekend.
