The DSPCA have said a heartbreaking farewell to their "old friend" Peppa the pig who sadly passed away yesterday.
Peppa was a beloved resident of the DSPCA shelter who provided a "cheeky smile" for all the visiting children.
But she has been battling illness since last May, and the decision was taken to let their "dear friend" go after she failed to fully recover.
The animal charity posted a heartbreaking tribute online, saying they promise they will take the best care of her friend George.
"Anyone who has visited the shelter over the years will remember our sweet piggy Peppa," they said.
"She loved seeing all the visitors and the children at the shelter on school tours and always had a cheeky smile for them.
"She was a little character who we all loved.
"Early last May, Peppa became unwell, and our vet team made every effort to help their friend but sadly a very difficult decision had to be made yesterday.
"Despite all their efforts over the months, we could see that she was in pain and she was suffering.
'No animal should suffer no matter how much we want them to stay in our lives, and so with many broken hearts, we had to let our very dear friend go.
"Peppa, we will always remember your funny ways, your very noisy eating habits, your love for red peppers, bananas and pumpkins, and we promise to take care of your best pal George.
"Sleep well old friend."
