A fundraiser has been set up by the daughter of drum n bass pioneer MC Skibadee following his death last month. Some of the leading figures from Bristol’s music scene paid tribute to the jungle MC after his death was announced by his family on February 27, just 12 hours after he was billed to appear at Motion.
He was just 47 years old when he passed away, and his daughter Asia is now collecting money following the tragic loss. In a crowdfunder set up on the website Gofundme, she wrote: "Hi, my name is Asia and with a heavy heart I have to set up this page. My dad, MC skibadee, passed away on February 27th 2022.
"As his firstborn it has fallen to me to help our family with the unexpected loss of my dad. If you can help to take the pressure off during this time it would be much appreciated.

"With his sudden passing, the legal process to sort his estate/legacy will naturally take months, however his proud family need some support. I am truly lost without his guidance, his smile and the way he looked out for me and his friends.
"It doesn’t matter how much you give every penny will be appreciated by my and the family he left behind. My dad was truly a one of a kind person and If you had the privilege of knowing him, his music and everything he was, your (sic) were blessed like me. My heartfelt thanks for all your support and kind words."
MC Skibadee was one of the first and leading players in the jungle music scene since breaking through back in 1993. The pioneering MC often appeared in Bristol, and performed a sell-out set at the O2 Academy in the city back in March 2019 as part of a ‘25 years’ tour that only involved London, Germany and Bristol.
At the time of his death, Bristol-based rapper and record producer K-Ners described MC Skibadee as a ‘real legend in the game’, while the city’s night-time economy adviser Carly Heath said she it was a ‘devastating loss’ to the drum and bass community. “Really sad news to read about the passing of Mc Skibadee,” she tweeted.
“Real GOAT of DnB. Sending huge love to his family, friends, and anyone affected by this news. It’s going to be so strange not hearing him touch mic in the raves anymore,” she added.
“I’ve always appreciated a well-placed MC. If you ever got to catch Skibba when he was in a proper tuneful mood, singing as well as spitting, it was always a truly treasured night. Devastating loss for the DnB community,” she said.
