Drug resistance threat: 'don't ask doctor for antibiotics for a cold'

Antibiotics are being prescribed too often for no reason in the Hunter, causing increasing resistance to the drugs and deaths, the region's top infectious disease specialist says.

Professor Josh Davis, head of the Infection Research Program at Hunter Medical Research Institute, said "we see antibiotic-resistant bacteria every day in our hospitals".
