Drug dealer jailed after his 'bad driving' led to van stop

A drug dealer was caught with cocaine in his van after his bad driving attracted the attention of the police. Officers were driving on the A614 from Ollerton when they spotted a damaged vehicle in front of them drifting all over the road.

Dominic Hammond was behind the wheel of the van and – unbeknownst to the police about to pull him over – had quantities of cocaine with him at the time. After the stop, on 23 November 2021, the Class A drugs were discovered by police on the van’s dashboard, along with a large amount of cash in his pocket.

Hammond, 30, would go on to be charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs – something he’d later go on to admit to in court. Following that guilty plea, Hammond, of Breck Bank, Ollerton, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (7 June), where he was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

PC Koen Broers, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The sentence handed out in this case should serve as a warning to anyone thinking of selling drugs on our streets.

“As Hammond found out to his cost, dealing drugs is an incredibly serious crime that has very real consequences, and we at Nottinghamshire Police simply won’t tolerate it in our communities.

“We know how much devastation drugs can cause – not just to people who take them but their loves ones too – which is precisely why we take all reports of drug activity so seriously and why anyone found guilty of selling them should expect a hefty sentence.”
