Here are some of the best picks from last week’s papers:

James Ormiston sent in this photo after taking a stroll out and about to capture the spirit of the Fringe in Edinburgh, which is back in full swing after two pandemic years.

Len Clemie took this colourful shot of a dahlia in Cupar, Fife, where the bees were out in force.

Pipers and drummers of all ages marched through Glasgow’s city centre to mark the launch of Piping Live! 2022. The National went out to see the parade pass by

Donald MacLeod took this shot of the Upper Glendevon Reservoir in the Ochil Hills, Perthshire, where water levels are some 100ft below normal. The ruined buildings have remained hidden, save for two or three occasions, since 1955. The reservoir is part of a series of dams that supplies drinking water to much of north central Scotland.

Gordon McCredie sent this picture in after a visit to the capital, which started at the Grassmarket, to explore Edinburgh Zoo’s Giraffe About Town sculpture trail.

The National's foreign editor David Pratt took this image during a visit to the war-torn country of Ukraine. You can read more of his experiences in Borodyanka (where this photo was taken) and elsewhere here

This striking satellite image, taken by the Met Office on August 10, shows the vast areas of Britain that have been affected by the prolonged dry conditions, leaving the parched land turning from green to yellow and brown.

Back on earth, Tor Sodergren took this lovely shot in Edinburgh Botanical Gardens during a short walk from one pond to another.

Alison Telfer captured the undeniable beauty of Scotland in this shot of Loch Inchard near Kinlochbervie, with mountains Foinaven, Arkle and Ben Stack in the background.

Robin McKelvie this week told of his visit to Shetland (Lerwick shown in the picture), and the diverse culture, wildlife, and food he found there.
