Drought Pushes Baltimore to Blend Susquehanna River Water Into Taps, and Some Residents May Notice a Taste Change

Households in eastern Baltimore City and much of Baltimore County are now drinking water that is partly drawn from the Susquehanna River. Officials started the blend on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, after months of drought pushed the region's reservoirs to low levels. Some residents may notice a slight change in taste, odor, or color at the tap, but local officials say the blended supply meets federal and state drinking water standards and is safe for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

Knowing which changes are expected and which should be reported can spare families needless worry.
