Drone photos reveal the aftermath of Reading Festival

  • Drone photos revealed thousands of abandoned tents and piles of rubbish at the Reading Festival site following the August bank holiday event.
  • More than 100,000 revellers attended the music festival held at Little John's Farm.
  • Festival Republic, which runs Reading and Leeds festivals, reported that 702 tonnes of waste was produced in 2024, down from 780 tonnes in 2023, with tents accounting for 71 tonnes in 2024.
  • Most abandoned camping gear ends up discarded rather than being automatically packed up and donated to charity as some people mistakenly believe.
  • Festivalgoers are urged to take their belongings home to reduce waste or use the designated on-site donation points, rather than just leaving it in the field.
