Drivers have been warned about a list of serious offences that can land you with the most points on your licence or even see you banned from driving.
And there are some things you may not expect. Fancy a kip in your car for example? This actually an offence and could land you with up to ten points on your licence.
Driving without due care and attention has many examples, like splashing pedestrians, or switching a song on your radio. This carries a points ratio of up to nine, depending on the severity of the incident. And even overpacking before a road trip can land you in trouble with the police. Offence code CU50 of causing, or likely to cause danger by reason of load or passengers carries a points total of three.
Offence code DD90 of furious driving can even include swearing at other road users, or using inappropriate hand gestures while driving. This carries a total of up to nine points on your licence, again dependent on the severity.
The team of experts at GoShorty have provided a full list of the penalties that would get you the most points on your licence.

How to check the points on your licence
Visit the Government’s dedicated website here.
Enter your information: you will need your driving licence number, your national insurance number, and the postcode on your licence.
Head over to the ‘penalties and disqualifications’ tab.
The points you’ve collected on your licence will expire after three years, however this doesn’t mean that the offence will be erased from your driving record in the same amount of time - this could take up to 11 years.
Andy Moody, Director at GoShorty, explained: Getting 12 points on your driving licence in less than three years could get you disqualified from driving.
"On top of that, getting points on your licence will also result in the increase of your insurance policy, as your insurance provider will want to be informed about all your motoring convictions in the past three years (five in some cases).
“It is for these reasons, as well as to ensure that everyone’s being safe on the road, that it is useful to keep in mind which are the offences that would get you the most points on your licence.”
