Drivers warned of prescription medication that could land them time in prison

Drivers could be breaking the law if they drive after taking some prescription medication.

If motorists in Scotland have prescribed medication and it affects their driving, if caught on the road they could face a £5,000 fine and or six months in jail, a minimum driving ban for one year, between three and 11 penalty points, and a criminal record.

As the Express points out, there are different rules about what it means to be "under the influence", depending on the substance. As for alcohol, motorists are permitted to drive unless they have exceeded the maximum legal limit.
