Drivers spot garage selling fuel for MUCH cheaper than big name petrol stations

With fuel prices going through the roof, it's not unusual to see some places selling petrol for as much as £2 per litre.

But prices vary wildly from station to station with one local garage seen selling fuel for much cheaper than other big name petrol stations.

An eagle-eyed driver spotted a petrol station selling petrol for £157.90 and diesel £169.90 per litre, well below the national average which is £178.93 and £189.30 respectively, according to the RAC.

Sharing the news on social media, the driver said on August 4: "So a tiny village garage in Herefordshire can manage this, but not the mega-stations of Shell, BP, Esso etc? Pic taken ten minutes ago."

The station is part of Griffiths Garage in the small north Herefordshire village of Leintwardine.

Since the Tweet went viral, it seems motorists have flocked to the station to fill up their vehicle.

Posting about the unprecedented demand for their local station, one person said: "The queue has stretched down to the bridge again today and has been like it for several days..frustrating for the folks that live and work around here."

An update on Griffiths Garage's Facebook page described the last few days as "hectic".

Other social media users slammed the bigger firms for not being faster to lower prices. One said: "If they can sell it that cheap we're getting ripped off. Even supermarkets are more expensive!"

Another said: "This needs to go viral and tag the big companies in it!! # tesco #bp #esso #shell #texaco #asda # morrisons #sainsburys.

"It's a disgrace that they can't follow suit..."

The fuel for Griffiths is supplied by Indian firm Essar. It's developing a reputation for providing cheaper fuel, with one forecourt in Whitchurch, Shropshire, charging customers 25p a litre less than most other garages.

Owner of the bargain garage Dave Roberts criticised supermarkets for "reaping in the profit", while people struggle in the cost of living crisis.

"Here, we run how we want to run it and we take our margin out what we need and we try and help the locals, the cost of living and that jazz," he said.

Despite his generous offering, Dave said some customers still drive away without paying as prices continue to rise.

The garage owner said he's had nearly £1,000 stolen by motorists driving off just in the last month, he told the BBC.

He continued: "We obviously made a good deal with the oil company when we started our contract."

Another Twitter user flagged a Texaco in Shropshire that was selling petrol at £166.90 and diesel at £182.90.
