Councils across the UK will be able to fine motorists for minor driving offences under new rules set to be brought in later this month.
Drivers are being warned that minor traffic offences such as making wrong turns, stopping in yellow boxes and driving in cycle lanes could result in fines as councils will be given new powers to fine motorists up to £70 from May 31.
Currently, only the police can enforce this - but new CCTV cameras will inform council officers of any offenders. But motoring experts warned the changes could mean drivers are handed “wrongly issued” fines which will have to be appealed, Birmingham Live reports.
