A driver has been rushed to hospital following a crash on a major Scots road.
Officers were alerted to a smash having taken place on the A71 near the small town of Darvel, East Ayrshire, shortly before 3pm on Sunday, February 5. The popular route links Edinburgh with Lanarkshire and Ayrshire.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, sped to the scene and the male motorist was taken to hospital for treatment. The victim's age and the extent of his injuries are not yet known.
Photos taken at the site, which were shared on social media, show the affected car wrecked as a result of the dramatic smash. The rear has taken the brunt of the impact and appears mangled and misshapen.
Traffic can be seen at a standstill as uniformed officers inspect the area and a police van is stationed nearby. Cops have confirmed that no other vehicle was involved in the collision.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 2.55pm on Sunday, February 5, to a report of a one car crash on the A71 at Darvel. A man, the driver, attended at hospital for treatment.”
