Driver killed in road crash named as family pay tribute to 'much loved son'

A MAN who died in a crash involving two cars in Ayrshire has been named by police.

Police said a silver Honda Civic and a white Mercedes B class crashed near Largs on the A769 Largs to Kilbirnie Road at about 5.10pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended and the 22-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been named as Johnny Baxter, from the Kilbirnie area, police said on Friday.

The passenger in the Honda, also 22, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

The 63-year-old driver of the Mercedes was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock for assessment.

Baxter's family described him as a "much-loved son, brother and grandson" and said he would be missed "by everyone who knew him".

Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our thoughts continue to be with the family of Mr Baxter at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who can assist with our investigation and has not already spoken to officers to please get in touch.”

Anyone who can help should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2509 of Tuesday, October 15.
