Driver In 'Jason' Mask Arrested With Illegal Assault Weapon

A routine traffic stop in Santa Rosa took an unexpected turn when a driver was found wearing a 'Jason' mask and in possession of an unregistered assault weapon.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on a Saturday when a Santa Rosa police officer noticed a Gold Toyota Camry driving without headlights or taillights. After pulling the car over, the officer discovered the driver wearing a 'Jason' mask, which raised suspicions.

The officer described the driver as appearing nervous and sweating profusely, prompting further investigation. Upon searching the vehicle, the officer found an AR-15-style rifle partially concealed by a blanket in the back seat.

It was determined that the firearm, although unloaded, was an unregistered assault weapon, making it illegal to possess. The driver, identified as a 27-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, was promptly arrested without incident and taken into custody.

The Santa Rosa Police Department's Special Enforcement Team, established to combat illegal firearm possession and gun violence in the city, played a crucial role in apprehending the individual. The department emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of the community and addressing such threats.

Following the arrest, the driver was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on charges of possession of an assault weapon. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and uphold the law in Santa Rosa.
